I am really disappointed at any of the negative reviews of Chicago Diner. This a unique established business "WAY" ahead of it's time! There is enough variety that would make anyone's head spin! I love to visit when visting Boystown with a few friends and order a ton of food to sample as much as we can fill our big mouths with! Love the gyros (ask for whole wheat tortillas instead of pitas-way, less filling) and the soy mac and cheese! I admire what they have been doing and doing very well-I might add! I wished they would franchise because I am sold! I don't care what anyone has to say-they are still here and running successfully since the eighties. Cry me a river that you have to wait inline, cry about the parking-Are you new to Boystown? Otherwise, just shut up and EAT!

NOT a good place for carb control. Very high carb content in almost all their selections. Conventional wisdom says veggie dining is healthy. Check out the research and you will find this isn't exactly true unless you are VERY careful about carbs and sugar.

I was so excited to come here because of all of the amazing things I had heard about the Diner. When I did get there, I was disappointed. The focus is too much on mock-meats and not enough on the actual flavor of the food. The food is bland. Some of their dishes might be good but the California rolls and several other main dishes we ordered were terrible. The food is not inexpensive. The seating is not great - we were lucky to get one of the side tables.
I did enjoy their desserts, but I don't plan on making the trip out there again. Not worth the $50 sacrifice.

Whenever I'm craving veggies, I make a beeline to Chicago Diner for the Thunder Salad, which is packed with greens, tomatoes, onion, carrots, sprouts, green pepper, chickpeas, walnuts, cauliflower and other good stuff (I always get cheddar cheese thrown in). With the side of cornbread, it's a perfect meal.

My girlfriend loves veggie meals, so I thought this would be a great place to start our Valentine's Day evening. Well the Ruban tasted great, and the PB and Cookie Dough Shake was awesome. You know what isn't awesome, food poisoning. I have been curled up the whole day and I've become so acquanted with the bathroom, we are on a first name basis. Great food, but if you aren't a veggie-saurus, it might try to kill your stomach the next morn.

This is my absolute favorite place to go, and it is worth the 1 to 1 ½ hours it takes for me to get there. Let me start with my favorite which is their desserts. I take forever to decide what I want from their dessert case. Even if I a stuffed to the gills of vegetarian food, I will still bring home some awesome cake! The service has always been friendly and prompt. They also have a lovely outdoor dinning area when it is nice out. I recommend sitting outside if you can! Most portions are large and the selection is mind boggling. I sometimes go on their website before I go so I will already have something picked out. Their menu also changes with the seasons, making their food always fresh and the choices always different. The parking can have you walking a few blocks, but the neighborhood is pretty, so I don’t mind. Of course, it helps to burn off some of those calories. I hope everyone has a chance to visit. http://www.veggiediner.com/

I LOOOOVE Chicago Diner!! I was trying to go eat Ethopian Cafe for the buffet, and found out that Ethiopian Cafe is no longer open-grrr. I really wasn't in the mood for blatantly Vegetarian/Vegan for (I am vegan), but decided to eat there anyway. I was soooo glad I did! I forgot how great the service, food, and atmosphere all are. I was there for a weekday lunch and was overly attended to. One person seated me, another checked on me to inform me that my waiter was cleaning up a table in the back, and then my waiter was wonderful and gracious. The Thai Tofu and Mickey Maki were delicious. Then I made room for that incredible tofu [blueberry] cheesecake. I crave their tofu cheesecake almost daily, it's yummy, yummy, yummy!

Food is good but shows that even vegans can eat unhealthy greasy diner fare. I looove their tofu cheescase, and the vegan cakes are masterpieces (tho' probably made with soy margarine -- a no no for healthy diners). Not as good as Blind Faith in Evanston, but completely vegan, pro-active in the vegan community, probably less expensive (but close call, if you take into account the parking hassles in Chicago).
I did have a problem with a blueberry vegan muffin, May 29 '04, purchased at Peoples, however.
