The word "enso" means circle, and it's often used in Zen paintings to symbolize strength, enlightenment and harmony—which is exactly what the Enso Yoga and Martial Arts studio hopes exercise enthusiasts of all levels and ages will experience in its unique classes.
South Loop residents can sign up for a month of unlimited classes in Capoeira—a mix of dance, acrobatics, music, and self-defense that originated in Brazil--for $125. Students age 15 and up can take classes at Enso's natural light-filled studio in the modern Japanese martial art of Aikido for a $90 monthly fee with a one-time $25 registration fee or try Iyengar yoga, which helps develop strength and concentration through vigorous poses, for $17 a class. Purchasing one of the studio's yoga packages can bring the price down to as low as $10.
Enso Shotokan Karate classes—which focus on karate basics, stretching, self-defense and sparring—are also offered six days a week. Some are even available for children as young as 4; and Enso holds classes for teens and adults who are karate beginners or more advanced.
