It takes more than a few comfy chairs, fireplace, free wi-fi and a stack of family games to create an open and friendly community vibe—but it's not a bad start. From its summer poetry nights to the young mothers' group meetings, Barista Coffee House hosts a crowd that reflects the diversity of its neighborhood, Ukrainian Village; college students, families, dog walkers and freelancers all drop in throughout the day.
The menu offers an appropriately wide range of options, from the Columbus Milky Way (a rich espresso drink with frothed milk, caramel and chocolate for $4.15) to the Voluptuous Vegan sandwich (hummus, red peppers, cucumbers, lettuce and tomato for $5.75). So no matter what you're in the mood for—a game of chess, some study time, or lunch with the kids—you should be able to hang out here. Stick around long enough, and you might even get to know your neighbors.
