The very retro Boston Blackie's is a haven for burger lovers. There are a few other items on the menu (notably, the Garbage Salad), but why mess with perfection? For $6.25 or less, customers will enjoy a half-pound slab of ground beef with steak fries, onion rings or potato skins. Garnishes include olives and three types of cheese. Those with bottomless stomachs should consider the Boston Blackie burger, which is covered in bacon and grilled onions.
Walking into the Grand Avenue outpost of this local chain (burger-loving Loop workers can head to 120 Riverside Plaza) is akin to walking into 1947; you half expect the wait staff to call you "dame" and ask what kind of highball you'd like with lunch. The dark lighting, rich wood bar and plethora of liquor on display adds to the speakeasy feel.
