NOW CLOSED...Formerly: Save for the stained glass windows, your family may forget they're not at the kitchen table during a meal at Caffe La Scala. With a newly expanded reception and bar area, the restaurant is also a hotspot for neighboring UIC students who've figured out that four people can split two entrees, and do so without having to sacrifice that week's beer money.
Though the establishment's stunning panoramic view of the skyline justifies a return visit in its own right, executive chef Silverio gives but another reason to return, astonishing diners with his signature entrees, including chicken vesuvio dotted with peas. Spinach ravioli, saturated in a decadent vodka marinara, creates a longing for an Italian bloodline. As far as a la carte veggies, don't leave without trying the grilled carrots and zucchini, which is taken every bit as seriously as the tiramisu.
