Editorial Review of Cherubs Cafe

Cherubs looks uncannily like your grandparents' country home; that is, if your grandparents had a counter full of ice cream, smoothies, churros, sandwiches, salads and more. Point is, you'll feel right at 'home' in this Mexican cafe as soon as you step through the door. Immediately to your right, there's an array of brown, wooden tables for you to eat your various treats at, as well as read and relax. To the left of the counter are a couple of couches facing a non-hi-def TV showcasing Spanish-speaking stations. This, too, will remind you of home, and specifically the living room inside your home (or at least a Hispanic version of it). The walls are painted a soft burnt umber and decorated with the occasional sculpture of an honest-to-goodness cherub (with a baseball hat on backward).

Once you get to the counter, you'll notice the menus hanging from the ceiling, each with its own specialty. Salads, including chicken, tuna and pink salmon, are $3.49 (medium) and $6.49 (large). Sandwiches of all kinds range from $3.49-$6.69. Ice cream of every flavor you can think of costs $1.49 for one scoop, $2.49 for two and $3.49 for three (plus 50 cents for a cone). Then there are the smoothies and the shakes. And last but not least (and hands down the best thing Cherubs has to offer) are the incredible, mind-altering churros. For only $10 you can have a dozen of these downright fantastic fried logs of butter-soaked deliciousness, each bite more mouth-meltingly amazing than the last, each lick more frantic and desperate than the first (that cinnamon and sugar really, really hits the spot). If you don't have enough willpower to stop from eating the whole dozen, you can order a single stick for $1. Add filling for 25 cents more. Why not? You've already ruined your diet anyway.

Behind the counter there's a camera pointed directly at you with a sign under it that reads "Smile for a camera." Rest assured that if you eat Cherubs' churros, or anything else for that matter, you will be.
