It's curious that this hole-in-the-wall calls itself Five Faces Ice Cream; it doesn't even serve five flavors of ice cream (it offers only one, and that's the chocolate soft serve). Maybe the people who named the place were as inebriated as its regulars, who form a disorderly line outside the storefront space as soon as they're booted from the Rush Street bars.

If not ice cream, what can you find at Five Faces? Here's a hint: If the myth about grease curing hangovers is true, you'll be in fine form by the next morning. The house specialty is gyros, served spilling out of a warm pita. The steak sandwich, served in either pita or on French bread and smothered in sweet onions, green peppers and A1 sauce, is another popular meaty choice. Hamburgers, hot dogs, chili, Italian beef, French fries and taffy apples quell whatever craving you may have five shots into the evening. Whatever you go for, it will cost you less than ten dollars. The majority of Five Faces' business is takeout, but a few stools stand at a narrow counter for those who can't wait to hail a cab before the noshing begins.
