Raj Darbar translates to "The Royal Court," which in Lincoln Park translates to overpriced Indian cuisine. It's a nice night out for locals who don't feel like trekking out to Devon Avenue for their curry fix, and the elegant atmosphere is a far cry from the run-down Devon vibe.
Food at this Indian hot spot is cooked at 900 degrees in a Tandoor oven and loaded with enough spices to make you cry like you've been chopping onions all night. A bread basket full of naan will help subdue that runny nose and those drippy eyes. The buttery flatbread is baked right on the walls of the clay oven and served just as hot. Start with beef or vegetable samosas or try an assortment of appetizers for $11.95. Work your way toward Tandoori dishes of tiger prawns, chicken tikka and lamb ($20-$27), or try a seafood special for $14.95. Prices are high, but portions are generous to the point of leftovers, and Raj Darbar has a knack for preparing food that rocks your taste buds the second day through (even after falling victim to the microwave).
