There's no need to run this spot's name through spell check. Blending the last name of the Shakimi brothers, the brains behind River North's Kevin, with our fine city's moniker, Shikago dishes up pan-Asian fare for the Financial District's after-work crowd, appealing to patrons who want to wine and dine before the clock strikes 6 p.m…if they don't order another round or two.
The interior boasts a gallery-like feel with framed photographs decorating the stark wall. A neutral color scheme and plentiful wood accents blend into a modern scene. Three separate rooms serve different purposes, including a take-out area, a lounge and the main dining space. The restaurant is located on the ground level of Philip Johnson building, but diners who reserve Shikago's private party area enjoy a view from the 40th floor.
Diners can expect three different menus. The take out menu, most popular for lunchtime, highlights bento boxes, salads, noodles, soups, sushi and Vietnamese sandwiches. The lounge serves appetizer-esque plates like yakitori (skewered chicken) and steamed dumplings. Main dishes include ginger roasted shiitake mushrooms and bulgogi (marinated rib eye) with scallion pancakes. Although the Loop doesn't necessarily serve people looking for a wild night out, Shikago proves it's a good place to get started.
