Feel like taking a chance on a Chicago premiere by some playwright named Tennessee Williams? You’ve got 'til May Fourth. "Candles to the Sun," written before the American icon started calling himself Tennessee, is about an achingly poor Alabama mining family involved in a drive to unionize. A must for Williams scholars, the play works on its own merits. Critics across Chicago love the hardscrabble drama, praising Eclipse's stark production and its ferocious, fifteen-strong cast. Turns out that a genius taking baby steps is still pretty darn good.
