| Founded in 1976, the only professional non-profit African-American theater company on the North Side has produced nearly 100 plays, providing jobs for African-American artists and presenting professional theater to people of all colors and creeds. One of their special emphases is training and inspiring underprivileged youth. Many of their shows -- for example Ain't That Lovin' You Baby (The Jimmy Reed Story), Muddy Waters, and The Otis Redding Story -- are biographies of black artists and musicians. Some regular performers with the company have gone on to perform prominently on Broadway and around the country. For more information, visit their website: http://www.blackensembletheater.org
