Founded in 1987 by Craig Berger, the Buffalo Theatre Ensemble (BTE) has performed acclaimed contemporary and new works and occasional classics. Inspired by notables such as The Group Theatre and Steppenwolf, BTE is rooted in the idea that an acting ensemble and company, who have a history of working together and have developed a sense of trust and community, can create better art.
The theater took its name from an early production of "American Buffalo," by David Mamet, whose script instilled a naturalistic style of acting. Today, BTE is led by Artistic Director Connie Canaday Howard and Associate Artistic Director Amelia Barrett, and is in residence at the McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn.
