| One of Chicago's most daring new playwrights, Friedman is called "one to watch" by PBS On Air Magazine. Friedman's The Telephone Pole Man was performed at the Victory Gardens Theater during the 1998 season by the New York performance group Tribe. The Chicago Tribune's Chris Jones reported that "At one point, (at the League of Chicago Theatres retreat) Goodman Associate Artistic Director Michael Maggio made more than 100 influential people promise to go and see the work this fall of a young playwright whose work, Maggio felt, had not received enough attention."
