| Born in Evanston, McGovern's father was a law professor at Northwestern University, but transferred to UCLA. She was discovered in Los Angeles while doing a high school play and later played Timothy Hutton's girlfriend in Redford's Oscar-winning Best Pic Ordinary People (1980; some screen debut!). But her most memorable film role was in 1988 when she played Kevin Bacon's pregnant wife in She's Having A Baby. Recently, she appeared in indie period piece film Wings of a Dove (1997).
