| Founded in 1987 by Dan Rivkin and Marc Grapey, Famous Door Theatre Company is a non-profit, non-Equity professional theatre company... The group, which began performing in a 45-seat converted Uptown laundromat, was itinerant for 4 years, doing shows at the Victory Gardens Studio and The Theatre Building. In 1992, they established a permanent residence in a 99-seat theatre at the Jane Addams Center, where they offer a full season of mainstage plays (4-6 plays per year), master acting classes, and an annual series "Women at the Door" which showcases the world of local woman playwrights and directors. Expanding from 8 to 30 members, the group has won 6 Joseph Jefferson Awards (being nominated 15 times), and its shows have been listed among both the Chicago Tribune and Sun Times' "10 Best Productions" in three different years.
