It's no wonder that this health club has established an international reputation for itself, with more than 70 clubs scattered everywhere from Lisbon to London and Berlin to Tel Aviv. Sprawling and architecturally stunning, it features high ceilings, hardwood floors, rock tiled walls and opaque glass separating one space to maintain its organic, free flowing feel. Even the stairway leading up to the women's locker room overlooks the pool and workout area.
Classes: A flat screen monitor at the entrance showcases the list of the day's exercise classes, which include everything from spin, pilates bosu, power yoga and hip-hop to cardio kickboxing, swimming and mind body flow.
Holmes Place also prides itself on its top-notch personal trainers. Follow the hall of mirrors behind the main cardio equipment room toward one of the four studios, where punching bags are piled in one corner and bosu balls in another. There you'll find laminated bios of the trainers alongside a magazine rack holding pamphlets addressing target training such as women's fitness, the zone and balance training.
Extras: As to be expected, Holmes Place features coed sauna and steam rooms right off of the pool. On top of that, there's a pristine hot tub for soaking after a hard day's swim. Taking into account your every need before, during and after your workout, the club contains a health food cafe with a sizable seating area that features a flat-screen TV for game watching. The cafe serves healthy goodies like cottage cheese and fruit, hot oatmeal, veggie omelets, roast beef sandwiches served with lo-cal multigrain chips, salads and create-your-own smoothies.
Membership: You may opt for the club link membership, which allows usage of all Holmes Places worldwide as well as Bally Total Fitness clubs and Crunch Gyms. Score a corporate membership, meaning five or more employees join, and subscriptions start from $75 per month.
