Editorial Review of Moksha Yoga (Lakeview)

Ironically located amidst the zoo-like hustle and bustle of Clark Street, take one step inside Moksha’s airy studio (and one deep whiff of eucalyptus) and you'll easily forget the urgency of the city. At Moksha, even talking to the receptionist is relaxing.

This is a serious yoga studio. Not serious in a don't-you-dare-smile kind of way, but serious in a we-know-what-we're-doing fashion. And with yoga, it's best to learn from the experts: Yoga stretches are difficult to master, and mistakes are a given. Thankfully, the instructors at Moksha are both well-trained and patient, ensuring that anyone can take a class without the fear of being lost. The instructor will be your guide, and classes are offered at all levels.

The studio itself is one giant room stocked with blankets, mats and other yoga goodies. A boom box plays chants from gurus. Once situated, your only job is to learn. And breathe, of course.

Classes: Moksha offers classes daily. Choose from Astanga, Mysore, Vinyasa, Forrest Yoga, Anusara, Universal Yoga, Hatha, Tantric Hatha and Meditation in levels 1-2 (beginning/intermediate) or 2-3 (more vigorous, requires prior training). If you're unsure of what class to take, the staff happily provides recommendations. Walk-ins cost $16, or opt for a package: five-classes for $70, 10 for $120, or 20 for $200. An unlimited membership is available for $108 per month. Although classes rarely fill up, it's important to call ahead to reserve a space.

Extras: Massages and private classes cost $75, and there is one free Community class per week. For all potential yogis, Moksha offers classes in teacher training.
