The stretch of Roscoe Village near Belmont and Damen is no stranger to cute, independently owned family-friendly businesses, and the newest addition to the area, Self-Centered Yoga, is no different.
Opened in July 2008, Self-Centered is a small, welcoming studio at the corner of Belmont and Leavitt. Owner Julie Snyder wanted a place where everyone, no matter what their skill level or familiarity with yoga, could come, learn and reap the benefits of a regular yoga practice. Simply put, she's succeeded. Classes at Self-Centered are kept small, so you’re sure to get lots of instructor attention and a welcoming smile from the person on the mat next to you isn't unlikely.
This bright one-room studio offers hatha, vinyasa, Forrest, gentle, prenatal and even a few kid- and family-oriented classes. One class will set you back $16, but they offer discounted packages and usually run monthly rate specials. It's the perfect place for nearby residents to de-stress after a hard day at work and is also a great way to start or end your weekend with a Saturday or Sunday class.
